Espresso Martini
I’m definitely on the ‘adult vodka Red Bull’ train that is the espresso martini. It’s the perfect pick me up that goes along with any occasion. I found that this is the perfect balance of ingredients that’s not too sweet or liquor forward! You can even swap the vodka for tequila, rum or whiskey for a different flavor.
Espresso Martini
Ingredients
- 2 oz vodka
- 1/2 oz coffee liquor
- 1 shot of fresh espresso*
- 1/2 oz simple or vanilla syrup
- 3 coffee beans (garnish)
Instructions
- Place martini glass in the freezer 10-15 minutes before you start mixing!
- Brew espresso
- Combine all ingredients (excluding garnish) in a shaker. Shake with ice until the shaker is very cold in your hands
- Strain into your cold martini glass and garnish with your 3 coffee beans
Notes
- Fresh espresso is how you get that frothy 'head' on the martini that stays throughout you drinking it!

I struggled finding a good recipe for the perfect espresso martini. Many are too sweet, or too heavy handed with the booze (and I like my drinks strong), but this is my goldilocks recipe. It’s perfectly balanced with the vanilla syrup and fresh espresso!
The truly fresh espresso is what gives you the head that stays until you’ve finished sipping this guy up. It definitely can be made with other forms of espresso, but if that foamy texture on top is a sticking point for you, I’m sad to say that freshly brewed, legit espresso is the only way to go.
The other component I think is important is the coffee liquor. For this, I’ve been loving Mr. Black, specifically. I’m not sure why it tastes so different when I make it with Kaluha, but I’ve found myself preferring the times I used Mr. Black.
Shake this puppy until your hands are extremely cold, and you’ll fall in love with this caffeinated just like I did!
