Limoncello Margarita
I made limoncello with Meyer lemons we grew and have been trying to find the best cocktails to use it in. A thought crossed my mind one night - limoncello is kinda like orange liqueur - so I set out to make a limoncello margarita. I love the additional flavor that mezcal brings here, and I think the limoncello is the perfect balance to that smokiness.
Limoncello Margarita
Ingredients
- 2.5 oz mezcal
- 1.5 oz limoncello
- .5 oz lemon juice
- .5 oz simple syrup
Instructions
- Add all ingredients into one side of your shaker, add ice to the other
- Shake until the shaker is very cold in your hands
- Strain into glass with one (or a few) large ice cubes
Notes
- Can swap mezcal for tequila
- I use homemade limoncello that's very sweet, so I don't add much more sweetness. Adjust accordingly to your limoncello

I’m a biiiggggg mezcal girl, so I just had a hunch that limoncello and mezcal would make one hell of a marg - and I was right! My homemade limoncello is pretty sweet, so I don’t add much more sweetness to the mix, but the pop of lemon juice, and a sweet and salty rim, make this drink perfection.
After my husband and I moved in together, we got a Meyer lemon tree, and I may have killed everything else in our garden, but our tree is hanging on (and still producing lemons for us)! Making limoncello was a no brainer with my first batch of lemons because my husband was dieting pretty hard to prep for his powerlifting meet.
Now I’m hunting down and trying to nail some other delicious cocktails to use up my limoncello, especially since this year's crop is about ready to be picked.
